FAQ

Questions, answered

The short version of how Shield Carriers works, what we store, and what happens when you cancel.

Will I miss a load?
No. Brokers and shippers you've worked with can be added to your allow list — they ring straight through. Cold callers do not. If a real broker hits the filter the first time, they press 1 to connect and your dashboard logs the call so you can move them to your allow list permanently. Cold dialers and robocalls don't press 1; they hang up.
What about my insurance company?
Add their phone and email to your allow list once. Future renewals, claims, and COI requests come straight through. The same goes for your factoring company (if you have one), your ELD provider, and your accountant.
Can DOT still reach me?
Always. DOT inspectors, FMCSA, PHMSA, NCCDB, state DOT, CHEMTREC, and the courts are on a baseline allowlist that cannot be turned off — not by you, not by us, not by anyone. .gov and .mil senders also always come through.
What happens to my number if I cancel?
If you're on a paid Phone Shield or Full Shield plan, we hold your shield phone number for 15 days after cancellation so you can update your FMCSA record, BOC-3, insurance docs, load board profiles, and anywhere else you published it. During that 15 days you can resubscribe and pick right back up with the same number. After 15 days the number is released. The 15-day number hold does not apply to unpaid trials that end without converting, and Email Shield has no number to hold.
Can I get a refund if I cancel?
Monthly plans: no refund of the month in progress — you simply won't be billed again, and your shield stays on through the period you've already paid for. Annual plans: cancel anytime and request a refund for your unused full months. Every refund request is reviewed by our team before it's issued; once approved, the refund goes back to your original card. Bought through the Apple App Store: Apple handles refunds for App Store subscriptions, so request yours directly through Apple rather than here.
Do you read my texts and email?
By default we don't store the content of your filtered messages — only metadata about who contacted you, when, and which filter rule matched. If you turn on Inspection Mode (off by default), we hold the message body for 7 days so you can review false positives before it auto-deletes — and you can adjust that window in your settings. Our staff have no routine access to stored content; any access requires authorization and is logged in an audit trail you can see. We don't record voice calls.
Does this work in all 50 states?
Yes. The shield runs the same in every state, with CA ARL one-click cancellation respected and TCPA / CAN-SPAM consent baseline applied everywhere.
Hazmat, passenger, or household-goods carriers?
Yes. The always-on safety allowlist already covers the federal agencies that regulate every USDOT carrier — FMCSA, PHMSA, NCCDB, CHEMTREC, plus all of .gov and .mil. You add your insurer, factoring company, accountant, and trusted brokers to your own allow list once, and they ring straight through forever.
How long does setup take?
You sign up with your USDOT number, we provision your shield contacts immediately, and we give you a ready-to-copy block with your shield phone and email plus a step-by-step guide to update your MCS-150 record yourself on FMCSA's site — you sign in with Login.gov, verify your identity once, and change the public phone and email. Filtering goes live the moment a call, text, or email hits your shield.
Can I keep my real number for friends and family?
Yes — that's the whole point. Your personal cell stays your personal cell. You publish the shield number on regulatory and business filings. Only people who get past the shield (allow list or real-load callers) ever see traffic on your real cell.
What about scam "DOT compliance" robocalls?
Those go in the bin. The shield filters out pre-recorded “DOT compliance” calls, fake-FMCSA scams, and the “you owe a fine” robocalls that target new carriers. Real DOT inspectors call from .gov-registered numbers and always get through.
How much does it cost?
One yearly price per shield — that works out to just a few dollars a month, billed once a year. No contract. Cancel anytime. Monthly: Cancel anytime — you won't be billed again, and your shield stays on through the period you've already paid for. Annual: Cancel anytime — your shield stays on through the period you've already paid for, or you can request a refund of the unused months, subject to review. It includes the safety allowlist, channel modes, inbound events dashboard, and 7-day free trial with no card required. A 15-day number hold applies when you cancel a paid plan that includes a shield phone number. See current pricing on the pricing page.
Can I change my mind about the modes?
Anytime. Voice, SMS, and email each have their own mode (block all / filter / allow all), and changes take effect immediately. If you're driving hard and want to silence everything for a few hours, flip voice to block-all — the safety allowlist still rings through.
Is there a free trial?
Yes — 7 days free, no credit card required. We use your USDOT number to verify you against FMCSA at signup, and each USDOT is eligible for one trial. If the shield isn't worth the monthly cost after 7 days of real data, walk away with nothing owed.
What if I run a one-truck operation under an LLC?
Same flow. Use the LLC name as the business name on the verification step. The shield number and shield email are owned by the LLC and stay with the LLC if the operating-owner ever sells the truck or steps away.
