The problem nobody warns you about
The day your USDOT goes active, your phone number and email become public FMCSA/DOT records. Anyone can pull them — and lead-list resellers do, within hours.
Then it starts: spam calls, robocalls, insurance sales pitches, factoring pitches, and fake “load” leads. It hits your personal cell and your inbox, all day, every day, and blocking each one is a losing game — the number is on MCS-150, SAFER, BOC-3, your COI, and UCR.
Shield Carriers gives you a protected public phone number and email to publish instead. Real brokers, shippers, regulators, inspectors, and your trusted contacts still get through. Spam and junk outreach are filtered before they ever reach you.
Why not just use another number?
A second line still rings for everyone. Only Shield knows who’s real.

Your questions, answered
Will brokers still reach me?
Yes. Brokers and shippers you’ve worked with go on your allow list and ring straight through. A first-time broker who hits the filter presses 1 to connect, and the call shows in your dashboard so you can add them permanently. Cold dialers and robocalls don’t press 1 — they hang up.
Will FMCSA, DOT, inspectors, or emergency contacts still reach me?
Always. 911, DOT inspectors, state DOT, FMCSA, PHMSA, NCCDB, CHEMTREC, the courts, and every .gov / .mil sender are on a safety allowlist that cannot be turned off — not by you, not by us, not by anyone.
Can I cancel?
Anytime. There’s no contract. Monthly plans stop at the end of the current billing period; annual plans are prorated. No credit card is required to start your 7-day free trial.
What happens to my Shield number if I cancel?
When you cancel a paid plan with a shield phone number, we hold that number for 15 days so you have time to update your FMCSA record and anywhere else it’s published. Resubscribe within that window and you keep the same number. After 15 days it’s released.
Why not just use another phone number?
A second cell line or a Google Voice number still rings for every spammer who scrapes it — it has no idea which callers are real. Shield filters every call, text, and email against your allow list and the always-on safety allowlist, so the junk is stopped before it reaches you while real business gets through.
